I want you haters to know that the ones in this journals aren't "flames", but reasons (WITH TRUE facts, not the retarded "OMGSHADOWISTEHBEST!!11!) why Shadow is hated and WHY he should be not: because is NOT the character himself that is hated most of the time, is HOW he's treated by his retarded fandom.

If you're going to read this, please read it ALL: I know it's long, but I ask you to make those haters understand. Comments (not flames, REAL comments!) are much appreciated.


I really don’t know how to start this journal, so I’ll go straight to the point: has anyone noticed how many Shadow haters call him “a recoloured Sonic”, or an “emo”, even NOW?

This is just PATHETIC, and I’m SICK AND TIRED of that. And I’m not saying this because I’m a Shadow fan (I prefer the word “supporter”, actually.)

One, because you CAN’T hate a character: you can say he/she isn’t exactly in your top 10, but you CAN’T hate him/her. For example, I’m not The Babylon Rogues’ biggest fan, but I don’t go saying to everyone “OMG they suck!!11!” or every other insult towards those characters.

Two: FICTIONAL. F-I-C-T-I-O-N-A-L. Or better… HATE TOWARDS A FICTIONAL CHARACTER! Do those words ring a bell in your heads? It does mean you can go on living even without him/her.

Three: If you think Shadow is a “recolour”, then WHAT THE HELL ARE your OMG Super Cool Fancharacters (!!!11!!1) ?!
Counting most of your stories, both Sonic and Shadow have now A HAREM of recoloured Amys, more or less 30 brothers/cousins/parents or (OMG, they’re THE WORST!) SONS, who are their EXACT copy!! …Oh, sorry, you’re right, they don’t look like clones: Sonic’s son isn’t blue like his father, he’s more light azure coloured…
Sorry, my fault.

And four (and I will NEVER be tired of saying that):

HE. IS. NOT. EMO.

You write stories of him committing suicide for “joining his beloved Maria” (<_< ), especially in the “Shadow the Hedgehog” period.
You know what I think? I think that Shadow was REALLY EMO in Sonic Adventure 2, and that he wasn’t cool at all then, yet no one called him a recolour or a emo fag.
Why I think that Shadow was emo in SA2? Think about it: he KNEW that the ARK was reprogrammed for colliding with the Earth, yet he was MORE THAN WILLING to do that, just for his (misinterpreted) promise to Maria? Isn’t that some kind of suicide?
Or when he let himself “die” when he fell down to the Earth? In his place, I would have asked help from Sonic (who seemed as new when he came back on the ARK… O_o), instead of just… givin’ up your life, just because you fullfilled your promise to a person, and now you don’t have nothing else to live for.

<_< …Shadow wasn’t cool at all then.

In ShTH (Shadow the Hedgehog), wasn’t emo at all. One because having a gun doesn’t automatically make you feel like to point it to your head. And two, because “emo” is when you WANT TO KILL YOURSELF, NOT THE OTHERS: in that game (which kicks ass, sorry ) I saw (or if it’s not showed, I know they are) dead, let’s see…:
- A lot of GUN soldiers
- A lot of Black Arms soldiers
- Professor Gerald and the other scientists on the ARK
- Maria ()
- (In one of the false endings) Eggman
- (In one of the false endings) Sonic
- Black Doom

Hmm… I don’t see Shadow… Where’s Shadow? :/

Also, "Emo" is when someone doesn’t have problems, but act like he does, or makes everything too much tragical:
- Shadow DID HAVE problems then: his best friend being killed before his eyes by someone she said “I wanna befriend with them one day, when I’ll be cured and we can go down on the Earth!”, waking up without most of his memories and the only ones he remembers are gruesome images, the world thinking he’s an enemy while he’s yes a weapon, but a weapon OF LOVE, capable of feel the same feeling. (Go seeing Shadow’s story in Sonic Battle!)

Also: do you know how many times Shadow screamed "Maria!" ?

ONCE.

When he was in the capsule. The scene's just being repeated in SA2 and in ShtH, but it still was ONE F*CKING TIME.

And when he "repeats" () her name in flashbacks: people, Maria IS ("was", whatever...) her name! How do you want to call her? "Hey you, blonde chick!" ? -_-

Another thing: you say "Get over it, Shadow: she died 50 years ago!"

People... he was F*CKING IBERNATED: to him Maria was shot yesterday. The fresh image of your best friend being shot to death, while you can do NOTHING to help her.

It’s also incredible how you can turn Shadow from cold as ice to emo whenever you want! Make up your mind: is he heartless, or is he emo?! )

- Shadow, unlike "emos", DOES WANT to resolve his problems, and he doesn’t run around whining (I have to say that Sonic and the others’ “help” made me want to be emo: sooo annoying! -__-)

Now: Shadow has left his past behind him, he’s a GUN agent (a GUN agent, understood?), he’s got friends and (I’m saying that as Shadouge fan) a “love/like-interest” , and he’s even willing to accept to partecipate to the Olympics, the stupid (yet funny) minigames in SaTSR (“I’m the Ultimate… at playing violin!”, or when he’s being shot by some kind of sling into a mark… OUCH! xD).

Also: did you know that, in Sonic Rivals, Eggman mentioned his grandfather in Shadow's story?

Shadow didn't even blink.

And you people know very well that, for Shadow, where there is a Gerald's memory, there are at least 2 of Maria's, may them be happy or not.

...So, what do you have to say NOW?

People stopped their "brains" (yeah, let's call them "brains"...) in 2005, since they still think Shadow is still mentioning Maria...

His colours: for God’s sake, he’s born with that colours!! He’s not a emo/punk/goth who dyed his hair!

And, most of all, look at this phrase:

“If the world chooses to become my enemy… I’ll fight like I always have!”

Seriously… Where is the “emoness” here? He also says “fight like I always have!”, meaning that he always fought, even when you called him an emo.

Shadow just wants to LIVE. He is just HIMSELF, in a world (in the games, I mean) where he’s misinterpreted by most of the people.

And, believe me, being himself in a world like that, is the toughest of the challenges. And he won it.

I hope you can understand the character a little more: why don't you try to focus on something you like, insted hating?

… NOW I’m really starting to have enough of it: you even make more noise than the fangirls, and it says a lot!

Ok people, it all started when I was browsing here on DA: I found a stamp that said “Sonic is SEGA’s mascot, not Shadow!”

I couldn’t agree more.

Sonic is and always will be SEGA’s mascot and the one who started it all: it doesn’t matter how much people love Shadow, Sonic CANNOT and will never be neither replaced nor hated. Even the craziest of the Shadow fangirls can and MUST say that.
Shadow is a character that you love “inside the game”, because of his complex personality, but Sonic is the one you love when you need… how can I say that… when you need to think of serenity and freedom. Yes, freedom. Because Sonic can be loved either “inside the game, the storyline”, and as a “video-game character”.
I mean, also, when they ask you “What kind of games do you like?”, you don’t answer “Oh, I love Shadow’s games” (And if you’re so stupid to actually answer like this, then you’ll hear “Shadow? Who is he?”, and you’ll have to say “He’s the black hedgehog that looks like Sonic”: as you can see, all the roads lead to Sonic! xD), you say “I love Sonic’s games”.
So there’s no way Shadow will be SEGA’s new mascot. Never.

So I thought “Ok, I wanna leave my comment, then I’ll fave it!”

But now all you see Sonic doing is skipping through the flowers and saying "SMILE! 8D" As I like to say, Sonic Team neutered him. He's not the awesome hero he used to be. He was merely shoved aside, because y'know, good ol' violent, angry, depressed, shooting, motorcycle-riding Shadow is with the times.

Get a clue, Sega. Sonic is your mascot, Sonic is the reason you were ever successful, and Sonic is the REAL hero. NOT SHADOW.”



I don’t know if wheter I have to laugh or be mad.

Ok, first the funny part:

1) First you say “I DO like Shadow. I honestly do.”, then you say “At least, I DID when he first debuted in SA2. But then Sega turned him into an emo douche-bag.”
Now, I may not be the best in english language, but I’m pretty sure that DO and DID are different. Very. And she (yes, SHE) used them both in a stupid way. So girl, DO or DID?
I won’t say anything about the “emo” part: you already know what I have to say about it... >_>

2) She hates Shadow whenever she likes it: in fact, she made him pairing up with an original recolour, and together, with their love, gave life to their adorable, recoloured son. Oh, and Sonic followed up Shadow’s fate too!
…How unexpected!

Now, the serious part:

1) “No one ever mentions Sonic anymore when they discuss the games -- they all say, "Oh, Shadow's badass!" or "Shadow did this, Shadow did that..." etc.”

What the hell are you talking about?! After Sonic Next Gen, Shadow’s not been a main character (Apart from Sonic Rivals: but you can really call it “an important game”?!). Sonic is a playable character in Brawl, Shadow is just an assistent throphy (I don’t complain, eh! I’m perfectly cool with that, don’t get me wrong!) Everybody are talking about the upcoming games Sonic Unleashed and Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood. In the first, I bet Shadow won’t even appear, but no Shadow fan whined about it. And for the second, I saw Shadow in only a screenshot, and he wasn’t even doing anything special! He doesn’t even appear in any official image so far! So, there’s no point…

2) “Sonic hardly appeared in the new season of Sonic X, but Shadow did."

In ONLY 1 episode Shadow is the real protagonist and Sonic doesn’t appears, the 68th (the one with Molly). In the others, apart from episode 73 (when he tries to kill Cosmo), he has a pretty marginal role. Or if he isn’t marginal, the episode is about someone else.
And then, in a early episode of the series, Knuckles is the protagonist (episode 17), and Sonic is not even nominated, and NO ONE complained. (It was even a pretty boring episode too… )
So, I don’t really see the big deal…

3) “Shadow has had his own game (and there are now rumors of a second, god help us all).”

I’m sorry, but I’m “ pro-sequel”, I’m saying this especially as Shadouge fan, because in every game Shadow is in, I hope it will happen something

Who said Shadow is the hero of the series now? Shadow is on the heroes’ side (don’t deny it, people: he’s not an anti-hero since his own game), not THE hero. It’s just his “change of sides” that made noise, only that: Sonic’s place is still the same.

Even Vegeta from Dragonball is like that: I still haven’t found a Vegeta hater…
Also, it’s not true: Shadow KNOWS he and the others need Sonic. Remeber when Silver wanted to destroy all the three time parts of Solaris, but Shadow said “It would have been possible if he was still alive” ?

And this should be Shadow’s fault? And you hate that character because of that? And just because they made Sonic act like that in ONE game (apart from that gay line in Sonic Heroes… yeah. xD) ?
I actually see Sonic acting more badass and definately colder with his friends now than in the past: he says “Smile!” only to beautiful women, it seems… xD

For that I just have to say that you contradicted yourself: a person is violent and angry, OR depressed, not both at the same time. And I repeat, just because Shadow had a story of his own in Sonic 2006, it doesn’t mean Sonic is gonna be replaced. Because then you could say the same for Silver: he had his own storyline too!

Who said the contrary? Someone said that?

The fact is… you can’t be forced to have Sonic as your favourite character: they made new characters for that, like it or not.

I wonder if that girl made that stamp because she really cares for Sonic, or because she simply can’t stand Shadow (when she want, of course! ).

Also (this doesn't apply for this girl only), don't you HATE it when you see a FANTASTIC pic with Shadow, drawn by a VERY good artist, and then you read the artist's comment:

"I HATE Shadow, I just felt like drawing him."

... So, let me get this straight: you HATE a character, yet you use your time for drawing him/her, even in an AWESOME way?
I can understand haters who draw a dead/bleeding/emo Shadow (or whoever they hate), because they are a WASTE of life themselves, so it's perfectly normal to see their time being wasted as well... but YOU?!

So many talented artists, what a shame...


Anyway, they’re fictional. And if Shadow is so hated, blame:

1) The fangirls. The crazy ones, not the fans or supporters: they put Shadow on a pedestal and make Sonic some kind of blue scum.

2) The haters: you know, love is fast in being contagious, but hatred is even faster. What I mean is: they do the exact opposite of what fangirls do. While the fangirls do "bad publicity" for Sonic, haters do the same with Shadow.



If you exclude those 2 kind of people, you'll see that Shadow is not a character that needs to be hated…

For the girl in question: first, learn to write without contradicting yourself. Second, if you wanna say something, go ahead: I believe in my points, and I know how to use them.

As I always say: concentrate yourself on something you like, people! Hating is useless!

It's long: take a seat...

I've copied and pasted a conversation I had with a PURE Shadow hater ( xD) on YOUTUBE some months ago through notes. (I forgot to show you... xD)


"I just find it funny how fankids react when I insult one of the characters."

"...Fankids? Why when someone like Shadow the Hedgehog and/or his game, everyone thinks she/he is a fangirl/fanboy? This is what makes me mad about you haters. Trust me, I've seen TRUE fangirls on DeviantART, and they are our (Shadow supporters) shame, and the reason why people like you hate Shadow.
Because Shadow, most of the times, is hated because of how is treated in his 'fangirls/fanboys fandom', not because of who he is: and this is something REAL fans are really ashamed of, but it's neither Shadow's, nor our fault. And, if some fg/fb sees Shadow only as a 'hot guy' or a 'badass', well... Too bad for them: we like his character's development and a lots of other things that REALLY count.
The game isn't THAT bad. Of course, it's not better than a lot of games in the world, but I enjoyed it. I also think people made up too much noise about the guns: I mean, they were cool in a way, you weren't forced to use them ALL THE TIME, and also, I think SEGA learned the lesson. I didn't see guns in Sonic Next Gen in Shadow's story. Of course, there were the veicles, but it wasn't a big deal: Sonic's levels were a lot more frustrating, especially in the 'Speed moments'...!
If you just had said that you don't like the game or the character, it would have been ok: I'd never have replyed to you for that. You are free to like whatever and whoever you want.
But how you said your first comment, it seemed you were talking about the character, not about the game, like you said. Also, you called him "a wannabe": this is obviously not about a game, since being a wannabe is part of a personality -and games don't have ' personalities ' - : I replyed because what you said wasn't true. Shadow isn't a wannabe.
He is HIMSELF: a strong person (well, hedgehog...) Especially since when he left his past behind him. Period.
Of course, he isn't perfect (nobody is!), and not everything rotates around him, but hey...! When you take a break from the 'real life', you have to put your passion in something you like, right?
If you hate something, just say something that is true: this is what I wanted to tell you. I'm just sorry if I offended you, but I swear: calling a supporter a 'fangirl' is pretty insulting, especially because of OUR fangirls! -_- God, I hate them...

I personally really am pissed off by the deviant furrys/yt fankids.
I said 'wannabe',because Sega make him look like hes a supreme badass wanker hedgehog. Every Fankid is supposed to love him because hes so 'cool' and 'supreme'...
The game was not that bad, you are right.
But for me, a guy who only played the 2D Sonicgames back in the early 90s, it was a bad thing.
I was in the store and looked at the back of the games, then I saw Shadow the Hedgehog with his gun and stuff. I saw Sonic is involved so I thought: why not buying a sonicgame again ?
When I came home and started shadow the hedgehog I was completely excited.
But when I took it into console and heard the sucky newmetal rock music appereaing and him with his weird motorbike, I just said: Is this a Sonicgame ?
Because Sonic feeling was all gone."

Even when he "killed" Sonic I was pretty shocked! When he said "Now I'm the most powerful HEDGEHOG of the world!", I said "Great job, Shadow: Vegeta would be proud of you! Now only remain the echidnas, the foxes, the cats, every other species of animals in the Earth..." xDDD So, as you can see, I'm not a crazy fangirl: I can make fun of him too! ;D
I also understand your point of view: from that tiny hedgehog in 2D to so many new characters in 3D, it must be hard for you old school fans. I actually thought Shadow was the best new character, because he added some deepness to the Sonic franchise: for me, being a person who likes to analize a character's personality and development, Shadow has been a good thing. His game was terrible if you look through the story, with all the fake endings and all. If you look just at the real ending, it's just another Sonic game (and a Star Trek rip-off, if you know what I mean! XD), only not with Sonic as the protagonist or the hero: maybe it's this what disturbed the Sonic fans...
I also wanted to say another thing: SEGA didn't want to make Shadow a complete badass, on the contrary. He's one of the most "human" characters in the Sonic's gang, without being *she hates that word* EMO. Because he isn't emo at all: he's stronger mentally than physically (and it says all). But some fangirls or fanboys just stop on him being "hot" or "cool", put him on a pedestal reducing Sonic to a fag, and ruin all.
Sonic is still Sonic, and NOBODY can take his place: in fact, Sonic and Shadow are my favourites, Sonic for a reason, and Shadow for another. We should concentrate on what we like, and ignore what we hate (and I ignore a lot of characters! XD)

"I understand what you mean. In my opinion The endings, where he kills Eggman is... bleh. Sonic did always beat Robotnik,but he never died in any game. Im was just pissed after I saw this karate chop thing from shadow xD I put it out of my ps2 and threw it at the wall.
Shadow is way too serious for a sonic character. Did you notice that sonic is kind of a dragonball with hedgehogs ? Sonic=hero(goku) shadow=villain(vegeta) silver=future boy(trunks) lol.
Well I am not a Dragonball fan but I just noticed that. Hilarious, isn't it?
That is were u see that Sega has no fucking idea what to do with the Sonicfranchise :/ so sad. "

"Yeah, everybody noticed the similarities with DBZ. xD But I think Shadow is less serious than you think (he'll never be like Sonic, but...), and in the last games he's more... relaxed: I tired SO hard not to laugh (in a good way) in Sonic and The Secret Rings' minigames (Shadow playing violin is an epic win! xDDD), and in Sonic and Mario at the Olympics (All those disciplines don't make him badass at all, on the contrary: he's "normal" and funny! xD And the intro: Shadow and Luigi jumping the obstacles! LMAO! And when he fails in a discipline: "I let you win..." Me: "Yeah, right: EVERYBODY let the others win at the Olympics! xD") I mean... try putting Vegeta in a situation like this: NO WAY!
He also SMILES in Sonic Rivals 1 & 2!! (OMG! Finally! xDDD)
So, I think Shadow is a good add: nobody would have played Sonic's games anymore without a serious add. You can't even say he took the spotlight away from Sonic in the last games... In Sonic Next Gen, Sonic was still the protagonist, after all..."

Some haters' excuses and what I think of them. Very, VERY short, maybe old, but truthful.

1- “He’s an unoriginal recolour!”

Ok, this is SO stupid that I won’t even answer it, because this is the LAMEST excuse you can say about your hatred for the character. Take a better look at the journals I wrote above, do me a favor.

2- “He’s emo!”

But of course! And I’m the Queen of England: nice to meet you everyone!

3- “He uses guns!”

In. ONE. fu*king. game.
Three years ago.
And they weren’t even “a must” in the game.

Are you guys going to use this stupid excuse for much longer?
Also, if I remember correctly, Tails and Eggman used weapons in SA2, and SONIC himself could use weapons in Brawl…
… and the name “Sonic and the Black Knight” tells you anything?

4- “He uses veicles!”

…And did Sonic REALLY need to use those “air gears” (or whatever) to kick Jet’s ass, in TWO games?
Sonic? The Blue Blur? The Fastest Thing Alive?



5- "He swears!"

He "swore" in his game only, and only said "Damn" ("Hell" is a place... ). Now, you guys go looking at Sonic porn pictures on FurAffinity, and you feel "offended" by a word like "Damn" ? -_-
Also, Sonic (LIEKOMG!!1!), Knuckles, Espio, and the Commander swore too, but, strangely, only Shadow was noticed! -_-
